Growing up, in terms of music, I was a pretty lucky kid. While other kid’s parents let them play their N’SYNC, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Will Smith bullshit, my dad refused to even let me know who they were… and I am a better person for it. I grew up listening to The Beatles, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, and The Doors. I loved Jim Morrison and George Harrison. From an early age, I’ve learned to appreciate all genres of music. I definitely go through phases where I’ll only listen to tech house or hip-hop or 80s punk, but I’ll never lose my love for all genres. In 2007, my history teacher told our class that our generation was going to listen to music that was combined of many genres from all time periods. Well fuck, he was spot on. In 2008, I heard Streetlab’s “Gimme Shelter” remix, and then the massive craze of mash-ups (Supermash Bros) swept colleges across the U.S. (shit sucked). But, the scene has developed and I don’t see it stopping. Now there is dubstep playing in kids cereal commercials. Here are a few classic rock songs remixed. Enjoy.
