Spooky Tings

1 Nov

Welp, Halloweekend is finally over and my whole body is thankful for the rest.  It was like the Five nights of Halloween out here in Denver; bar parties, house parties, party parties, it has sure been a wild ride to Neverland and back.  Then, to cap the weekend off on a thunderous note, the entourage cruised up to the First Bank center to experience 8 hours of some of the hardest hitting dubstep in the industry.

With a lineup of 12th Planet, Nero, Skream & Benga, and Skrillex, it is hard to find err.  The only debacle is, “Holy shit! will I make it through every set?!”

The party bus rolled into the parking just as 12th Planet was taking the stage, and everyone on-board was ready to take off.  He laid down a very solid set by any account, playing some safe, classic bangers that would be sure to make the room jump.   As the night went on, the Stage sets kept growing.

Nero hopped on stage with incredible anticipation after seeing their podium rolled on.  These two set the mood for the rest of the night, and due to some technical difficulties in the next act, dropped it the hardest.  They played every song I know of theirs and crushed everything about them.  What made this performance kick-ass was seeing Alana Watson coming on stage to sing all of her vocal tracks; ‘Innocence’, ‘Guilt’, ‘Me and You’, and ‘Promises’.  Huge act! Incredible tracks! you should all definitely see them!

After what seemed like an eternity, Nero’s stage was rolled off and 12th Planet’s was put back on? what? why?  For some reason, two of the dubstep immortals were not using their own set-up.  This was quite the misfortune, because things got damn questionable at points; real shrilly highs, and breaking out right before TWO drops.  However, I really can’t hold this against them when 96% of their set was flawless, and chest thumping.  Skream & Benga put on a solid show, and really knew how to play the crowd! If you don’t know much about these Brits, then you’re losing. If you’ve never seen these two….Losing!  This is a true, real, genuine, authentic, original dubstep show! Screw Excision, Screw Datsik, Screw Skrillex and Bare and Helicopter Showdown, this is what it’s all about! The vibrating sub-bass lines that you can feel in your cheeks, and thump out of your chest like an air-cannon! Skream & Benga took us on a full out Journey; ups and downs, DnB then…BAM! your whole body is vibrating with the shifting bassline of “Exothermic Reaction”  I could have stayed at this act all night, if it wasn’t for Skrilly Skrill taking the limelight with his redonkulous stage!  All you cats are going to have a hell of a time this weekend in Florida!

This thing was mindblowing, to get some insight on this monstrosity click the word ^”stage” ^.  Except last night it was all Halloween themed; cobwebs pushing down the pillars, the motion sensing robot was a jack-o-lantern and a skeleton, spiders crawling in and out.  Some WEIRD things happened last night and this was not the half of it.  While the whole stage thing, tied with the lights and the lasers was out of this world, along with his performance being super active and engaging, Skrillex is still Skrillex, and one can only take so much of those highs. I’ll give it to him, though, it was better than I expected because he broke up his newer tracks with some of his older DnB and electro beats and even threw in some Biggie. That being said, I’ve definitely fulfilled my Skrillex quota and once is enough. All of his tracks that I knew and liked he dropped, and he did it well too, but things got frantic at a few points with all the outrageous glitchiness that he was twisting in. If you haven’t seen him, go see him, but this is not a must see show.

I got class now, but I’ll be back later to bring you guys into a nice chill mood after the weekend’s festivities. I sure as hell know I need it.

Does anyone know the track that 12th Planet played that had the lyrics “bass bomb” ?

Honestly, Nero threw down and Skrillex’s stage set up was fucking awesome. Skream & Benga didn’t do as well, they were having technical difficulties and they just didn’t impress me – their stuff sounded like garbage. 12th Planet opening up the show was also impressive, he definitely pumped up the crowd.

do you think you would have felt the same way if the UK tandem had no problems? I thought some of their songs were incredible with those basslines. Yes i do have to agree, though, that they lost the energy of the crowd with some of their tracks and some of their mixing

I’ll try and get the tracklist, but the set will be unattainable due to them not using their own equipment.

Just a possible correction..I was there (epic! nero killed it!) and I think you may be referring to Biggie Smalls, not Dr. Dre. I remember Skrillex playing “Hypnotize” by Biggie, but no Dr. Dre..although it is possible I just don’t remember 100%.
