Mediafire Deleted All Our Uploaded Files

23 Jan

And just like that, 98% of the downloadable content on our site has vanished. Not how I wanted to start my Monday morning. It would be too easy for me to sit here, type to all you fans out there and say how emotionally crippled we feel right now and even sprinkle in some expletives. Instead, I will try to explain what happened as rationally as possible:

Mediafire allows its users to freely upload and share content. They are strictly allowed to remove content if it has been found to infringe on copyright law or they are permitted to delete all your uploaded content if you do not login to your account for 30 consecutive days (Last time we logged in was last night, January 22, 2012). So why are our files gone? Mediafire’s CEO has scrambled to make his company seem as distinctly different from MegaUpload as possible. Is this a reaction of Mediafire starting to crack down and police themselves? Or is this a taste of what’s to come under a more closely watched or even censored internet? Forget the SOPA/PIPA acts. Sure they haven’t passed – that did not stop our government from seizing the operation of MegaUpload. We cannot find comfort in that, just because a ‘law’ does not technically exist, the actions within that law will not be taken.

We appreciate and love you all. We ensure that, even though we will now be working with all the backed-up content on our laptops, we are working toward a solution of sorts. Please support PB&J™ by sharing our story and message.

Hulkshare and soundowl are both good with their own ups and downs. Soundowl allows for direct downloads, but no .zips and files are publicly inaccessible after 45 days

Sucks, man. A lot of blogs were affected. A good alternative is http://hulkshare.com/

That feeling as the last vestige of freedom slowly seeps away into a corporate pocket…. I’m no hipster protester, but you don’t have to be to see the direction things are going.

I just hope this comes to a head soon. Because, if they DON’T screw up big soon, then people won’t notice how much they are being undermined. People never notice the gradual things.

I’ll help how I can so, consider this shared!

    Hang in there!

you know what ? the black out didn’t work , we should just stay at home and refuse to go to work , I am not kidding here , if this goes on we can kiss the internet goodbye .

Hey, that really sucks what happened. I would suggest using RapidShare. The CEO recently came out and said it doesn’t care about what happened to MegaUpload and isn’t afraid of SOPA and all that jazz. Maybe it could serve as a replacement for MediaFire? Hope this helps,

    Andrew

This happened to me too. Last night I found out Mediafire deleted about 500 gigs worth of shows. No notice, no warning just gone.

    There are other sites:
Mixcrate seems like one right now – the only downside is you have to sign up to download, but it’s free.

Another one is Soundowl, not too sure about that one personally, but it should also work for free.
