For those of you that saw his Ultra performance, this is probably the song you’re still trying to pick your jaw up from. Avicii – Silhouettes (Kastra Remix)

9 May

Another Avicii remix…?” is what you probably groaned when you read the title. Hell — if you know me personally then you know I’m not the biggest fan of the young Swede. But to ease my slight hatred of Avicii, Ray Decker, better known as Kastra puts out a remix of ‘Silhouettes’ thats changed my opinion. Kastra, who’s known for his top-notch production skills added a more chilled out, progressive vibe to Avicii’s latest vocal smash. After receiving a fair amount of praise from Chuckie on his remix of ‘Who Is Ready to Jump?’ (which he played on his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix), it was only a matter of time before Kastra put out another epic piece. With multifaceted production skills and an original sound that can be placed under several sub-genres of EDM, 2012 is the year of Kastra. Look out for for more from him as we’ve got the man recording an upcoming episode of PB&J Radio. Also included below is Ray’s most recent remix pack!

Quintino – Musical Freedom Party 2012 [Live Set]

The good folks over at Tiesto’s Musical Freedom label are a little late to the party – but we’re not mad at all. They’ve finally decided to relinquish the sets from their official label party in Miami one by one. As they reach every 1,000 new Facebook fans, they plan to release a set. The MF team kicked off this live set giveaway with Tommy Trash and now Quintino’s set gets unleashed as well. Go head and Like the Musical Freedom page so we can get a couple more of these on the site! And tweet us @pnutandjams to let us know what you think of Quintino’s recent work.

Introducing: Horsepower (Tommie Sunshine, Bart B More, and Rip Tide)

5 May

It’s always awesome when long-time collaborators and friends can set aside some time, combine their individual talents and form a hybrid EDM group. Well, with the union of Bart B More, Tommie Sunshine and RipTide, better known as HORSEPOWER, we have just that and much more. With an album already in the works, I’m here to bring you a couple of their promising remixes and their latest take on ‘Only The Horses’ by the Scissor Sisters — classic, right? With eclectic stylings, heavy bass, blips & bleeps, disco elements and way more characteristics than we can name, the forming of Horsepower allows these three to explore sub-genre’s in EDM that we can all establish a new found appreciation for. Kicking off their group project with a Christmas-themed track a couple months back with Takei, ‘All I Want For Christmas is Techno’Horsepower made their initial footprint in the sand with some audio Xmas cheer. Next, they tackled the dancehall king, Sean Paul’s single ‘She Doesn’t Mind’ with their own grungy take. With heavy drums and perfectly placed vocal cuts, Horsepower stayed true to Paul’s dancehall nature, but added an electro, Dutch house feel that’s bound to tear the club up.

Download: Sean Paul – She Doesn’t Mind / Horsepower Remix

In truth, it was Horsepower’s most recent production, ‘Only The Horses’ that fully caught my attention. The timeless vocals coupled with nu-disco synths and a playful bassline make this remix the clear stand out of the three. With an epic synth lead in, the classic piano riff from the original prepares you for the vocally-connected break down. Although, it’s not too difficult to place Bart, Tommie and RipTide into specific genres, they continue to produce music that pushes the envelope for EDM and also showcases some of their hidden talents. We actually were able to speak to Rip Tide the other day and let’s just say that a Horsepower interview is something you should look for in the future on the site. Oh and be sure to follow them on Twitter @HORSEPOWERPOWER!

1 May

Robbie Rivera, Bassjackers, PeaceTreaty and opening & closing sets from Huge Euge - what a MAJOR night for EDM! If you’re a classic house music fan (yep, that’s what we used to call it), then you should know how important Robbie Rivera is to the game. Joining him on this massive excursion are major artists such as PeaceTreaty, and Bassjackers. On this particular stop, Robbie & co. decided to check-in at one of our favorite hangouts: Pacha NYC.
