This past Sunday Funday event was highly anticipated to be the grand opening of Output’s roof, but due to the weather the roof wasn’t able to be used to its full advantage. Although, it did give us a great sneak preview! Thankfully, Output shocked its audience once again as The Panther Room showed to be quite the hidden secret. The Panther Room gives off a certain ambience that is required for Sunday activities, a chance to just relax and have a few drinks. Not too shabby of a line-up either as headlining acts were Life and Death’s Thugfucker and No. 19 label heads, Art Department.

A two-story jungle themed room which catered to those who still needed to get some partying out of their system – before heading back to the normal world the next day. Prior to the headlining acts, NYC-bred DJs set the groove and oh boy! It made the crowd feel as if they time traveled back to the Disco era. The crowd accepted this groove with wide-open arms as many were singing some of these disco oldies at the top of their lungs. Circa 7pm, Art Department saddled up to the decks and gave us a mammoth set. One thing that certainly popped out was the multiple Tale Of Us tracks that were played. Of course, the ever-so-popular “Another Earth”, but also some great production from earlier this year from their Fresh Water EP. Art Department interpreted what the crowd wanted swimmingly, even Seth Troxler stopped by and couldn’t stop grooving. The time for Thugfucker had come, and we were all still on a high from the journey Art Department had sent us on. In my opinion, there are several labels out there currently who have a roster of DJs/producers that are taking this world by storm. Without a doubt – Life and Death are on top. Each duo/or solo act has found their signature sound, added a L&D twist and it couldn’t sound any better. A duo in which the two participating parties vibe off each other perfectly, always causes for a phenomenal show. A eclectic set that had soulful vocals, bouncy melodies or even heavy bass lines – everything fit like a puzzle piece. The climax of their set was when the first drop in Dexter Ford’s ‘Our Sun’ hit the Funktion1′s. A splurging of whistles and ‘woahs’ filled up The Panther Room.

Output is consistently proving to many underground fans that it will soon be a place called home. Now, showcasing us THREE separate rooms that have the possibility of always catering to our music needs. Once summer hits, it is going to be hard to get any of techno or house lover out of Output – guaranteed.

I was only going to include the In The Zone single from Airbird & Napolian but both of their singles were just too good! Airbird & Napolian are new duo consisting of Joel Ford and Ian Evans. We aren’t too sure the two linked up, seeing as Joel is from Brooklyn and Evan is from Los Angeles, but we are definitely happy that they did!

Blending elements such as disco, hip hop, RNB, and U.K. Bass the two have created a very high quality, authentic sound. It is definitely apparent from the couple of tracks that they have released that are no strangers to the studio. They are definitely going to be something big when their forthcoming EP, MR. FOOLISH is released. There label, Cascine Records, has not released a date on that EP yet so sit back and enjoy the sounds that they have provided so far. It’s ok these songs are good enough to hold you off until then.

Stefan Kozalla, aka DJ Koze, is staple to the german club scene and one of the most underrated producers. Known for his hip hop skills, as well as house and disco, Koze brings something on the more minimal side showing us the genre boundaries don’t scare him whatsoever.

Mixing together a weird concotion of what sounds like Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, And Nicolas Jaar, DJ Koze creates a psychedelic soundscape. Bringing on Matthew Dear, who is known for his unorthodox production style and Dj sets, they create an auditory lucid dream with a heavy bass line reminiscent of slowed down binaural tones. A trippy, distorted vocal over the track tops it off to create absolute wonderment, as it takes you on a 7 minute ride, which feels more like 3.

Definitely something for the daring dj’s to work into their sets and the out-of-the-box listeners, DJ Koze’s full project, Amygdala, can be picked up from Juno in the link below!

After all the dust had settled on Friday at Citi Field, after the first night of EDC New York, in the city that never sleeps, the party continued at Marquee for Richie Hawtin’s After Party. It was certainly a night to remember and certainly one you shouldn’t have missed. Marquee held it down with an amazing and elaborate stage design of a fire-breathing dragon to go along with their fantastic sound system. That wasn’t what the people came for and it certainly wasn’t the main attraction, the music was beyond phenomenal. M-nus artist N-Sound held down the opener with steady bass lines that kept everyone on their feet. With support from resident DJ’s Sleepy and Boo, the music before and after were exceptional.

Around 1 o’clock the club started to get near max capacity, a mix between troopers coming straight from the festival, straight from the office and those who made the black and white after party their sole priority. People were comfortably disperased between the two levels and around the three bars all night, dancing in unison and keeping their space.

That all changed as soon as Richie Hawtin came on the decks around 2am; the Funktion One sound system turned up a few notches, enough to blow out a few ear drums, and instantly the crowd could tell the main attraction was here. You could feel the tantalizing bass take over your body and the crowd erupted. Instantly, everyone rushed to the dance floor, fighting for space close to the speakers calling them. From above, a sea of black and white dots could be seen dancing in unison to the Detroit native’s old school techno rhythms. Dropping tracks such as ’Discochord‘ by Tale of Us and ‘Let’s Get Hot‘ by Breach, Richie pushed Marquee’s system to its brink. The minimal beats consumed the night until the early morning when Richie got off the stage, nearly 5am, to a thunderous applause from a crowd well pleased. From his own ENTER stage at EDC NYC to Marquee, Richie Hawtin owned New York last Friday.

With every festival comes a splurge of after parties. Blkmarket Membership hosted their 7 year anniversary at the one and only Output with headlining act; Seth Troxler. On the bill as well were Blkmarket resident DJs and owners Taimur & Fahad, who started the night off in the main room. The Panther Room also hosted an exciting night as well with tunes provided by Willie Graff, Daniel Bell, and Karina. One obvious observation was that this night had brought together an eclectic audience that consisted of new and old faces to the Underground scene.

As the night began, Output was slowly swarmed by a crowd anxious to see how Troxler will play as whispers of his not-so-impressive performance at EDC had caused for many people to second guess the night. Nevertheless, a small round of clapping began as Troxler prepared for an extended set. Per usual, Seth had a wide variety of vinyls to toy around with and everyone eagerly bombarded the dance floor. Starting off strong and with a heavy track selection that induced a groove throughout the whole club, all doubts suddenly began to fly out the window. As the clock struck 4 a.m., our ears were filled with all-star tunes such as an instrumental version of Henrik Schwarz’s ‘Take Words In Return’ which caused for several “woahs” on the dance floor.

As the night continued, every inch of Output was still crowded with people who had no intentions of leaving. Seth consistently danced along with the crowd and gave off a high charismatic vibe that deemed the night a success for many.

Here’s a special message from our NYC mates, Emeron & Fox. They’ve offered up another free download following their incredibly big “Nightmares” EP earlier last summer.

N.O.V.A. pushes through this overly reverbed lead female voice that creates an emotional and sentimental atmosphere. My gut reaction was that somewhat lonely feeling you get while rising the last train outta town at night – but more in a dreamlike daze, nah’mean? The overall theme is trippy yet highly danceable and for that, I give respect. Phase 1 of this free release is what you’ll hear above, but there are a pair of pending remixes to come – one from the very-hot-at-the-moment Pete Oak.

Pick this one up for free and take a listen to their classic “Nightmare” track below.

The prodigal son has returned — and yes I’m speaking about myself. As an avid, die-hard Kaskade fan, I wasn’t really ‘digging’ his recent work and tours, mainly because they’re targeted to a wider audience. And hey, I’m a selfish Kaskade fan! I don’t want overcrowding and high ticket prices, but that’s a topic for another day.

With his ‘It’s You “It’s Me Redux Tour” absolutely kicking ass all over the US, Ryan decided to release a beautiful deep house edit of his big room collaborative anthem with Adam K, ‘Raining‘ put together by his fellow group mates: Late Night Alumni. Over the years, LNA have come to be THE staple in producing vocal, deep house and they really flex their skills on this one. As a go-to track on his recent tour, Kaskade gives this mix away for free to all the fans enjoying the music!

Check it out above, and make sure to download it HERE!
