Firebeatz, a duo from Holland conceived in the Dirty Dutch period, has got its own heavy sound: you’d be hard-pressed to find a song of theirs without some pounding underlying kicks and a twerked out, grimey bass line. Eleven years after their first release under the name Chocolate Puma, Dutch producers Zki & Dobre have gone from the (paradoxically) overwhelmingly simple (I Wanna Be U) to the achingly dirty release at hand (Funky Cold MEDINA this is good). It’s truly shameful that they’re only now becoming trendy in the United States given the longevity and quality of their shared career. And while this four-headed Neder-monster has come together to make one hell of a track, their well deserved (albeit newfound) fame in the US and the rest of the global EDM community outside of Holland is presumably a result of this track’s being released on Afrojack’s Spinnin’ Records.
